The DocMgt Importer Service configuration happens at the folder level. You must configure the main folder settings and remember that the configuration will apply to that folder and all sub-folders. You can, however, tell importer to skip sub-folders if need be.

You must specify the server to which to import along with a valid username and password. It is recommended that you configure a new user specifically for importing so that user account can be tracked if any problems arise.

There are 3 import modes:

  1. Normal - Import records and documents and delete whatever is imported
  2. Pointers - Import records and documents as pointers only and leave the imported data intact for the server to use
  3. Sync - Import records and documents as pointers only and leave the imported data intact for synchronization purposes

Normal is the typical mode. The choice of the other modes depends on a few factors that will be discussed in their respective sections.

Other points of interest:

  • Importer can use the folder names, document names, dates, etc as indexing values for the import process as well as static values.
  • Importer can exclude certain files from the import by file type or by name
  • Records can be routed once imported
  • Match and merge can be used to add documents to existing records
  • Specific sub-folders can be skipped if needed
