The Search by Period report charts how much searching is being done over time. It shows when the system is busy, how search activity is trending, and how much one person is searching compared with everyone. The report is listed as Search by Period, and the page itself is headed Searches.

Running the report

Open Reports and choose Search by Period in the Record/Data Reports section. The report runs as soon as it opens, showing the current month.

Use the options below the chart to change what is shown, then select Run Report:

  • Search Date — the From and To dates of the period to chart.
  • Login User — one person, or All Users.
  • Chart Amount — what each bar or point counts:
    • Number of Searches — how many searches were run.
    • Number of Results — how many records those searches returned in total.
  • Chart Type — Bar Chart or Line Chart.

Reading the chart

Each bar (or point, on a line chart) is one day in the period. If the date range is a single day, the chart shows activity by hour instead.

Select a bar to open the User Searches report for that day, filtered to the same user if you chose one. That report lists the individual searches behind the bar.
